We actively engage in several community initiatives that reflect our commitment to the community we serve.High School Football Tailgates
Each year, Total Motors sponsors 4-6 fundraiser tailgates for local high schools. We provide all the food and do most of the cooking and serving. The best part is that 100% of the proceeds are then donated to causes like the athletic boosters, prom committees, or any other essential needs at the schools. This is our way of supporting local education and our young athletes.
Little League Test Drive Event
With support from Chevrolet, we host a test drive event at the local little league fields during a major spring tournament. Each test drive contributes $20 towards a goal of $1,000 to donate to the local little league program, benefiting both boys and girls. Even if we don't reach the goal in test drives, we still contribute the $1,000 and usually provide another couple of thousand dollars' worth of equipment and supplies. This initiative is all about fostering the love of the game in our youth.Summer Drive-In Movie
We kick off "Ice Cream Days" in Le Mars, a weekend summer town celebration. Le Mars is known as the ice cream capital of the world and home to Wells Blue Bunny. At Total Motors, we clear out our lot and bring in two big screens, allowing people to drive in and watch a movie from their car or bring out lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the show. We feature family-friendly movies like Sing 2, Frozen, and Cars. The best part is that this is a free event for the community. This year, we had a community college from Sioux City (about half an hour away) send up a whole bus full of people. Other local groups, like Wells, provide ice cream, and a local bank supplies popcorn for free. It's a fantastic collaboration that brings the community together.
Holiday Drive-In Movie
Similar to the summer movie, this event always takes place on Black Friday and marks the beginning of "Christmas in Hometown Le Mars," the first significant holiday celebration for the community. We showcase a family holiday movie, such as The Santa Clause, The Grinch, Home Alone, and more, all for free. A local coffee shop joins us, bringing a trailer to provide hot chocolate. This event is a beloved holiday tradition for many families in the community.Breast Cancer Awareness Month
During the month of October, Total Motors contributes to a significant cause. $100 of every vehicle sold gets donated to individuals in our communities who are fighting or have fought breast cancer. This financial support can help with medical bills or provide an opportunity for a much-needed mental break. Depending on how much we raise, we donate to a minimum of three people. We also donate to local hospitals and clinics to cover screening fees or help them purchase screening equipment to continue assisting patients. Typically, we raise about $10,000 in donations, benefiting numerous individuals with around $2,000 each. As of last year, we've donated over $60,000 in total, and this year we're at $10,000 and climbing.The individuals we donate to are nominated by someone in the community. They fill out a form to tell us about their journey, and we surprise them with a check presentation. This heartwarming experience often brings tears and demonstrates our commitment to supporting our community members during challenging times.
Pumpkin Races
Each year, Total Motors encourages parents and their pre-K through 5th graders to participate in a unique and fun community event: the Pumpkin Races. Our local ACE hardware store puts together kits that contain all the supplies needed for building two axles that go through a pumpkin with wheels. Families get creative and decorate their pumpkins, turning them into unique racers. The races are divided into classes based on the children's ages, similar to a pinewood derby race. We have big ramps that drop a gate, sending the pumpkins racing down. It's a round-robin tournament in each division to determine the winners, who receive trophies, and all participants are recognized with medals. Kids often show up in costumes, adding to the festive atmosphere. After the races, children go trick-or-treating downtown at local businesses, further strengthening community bonds.
